Traditionally Bolognese is made using a soffritto base of onion, celery and carrot with minced meat, often beef and pork, wine and tomatoes. A Bolognese Al Forno simply translates to Baked Bolognese meaning this is best oven baked.Provenance of key ingredientsThis dish features minced beef which has been slow cooked in an Italian tomato sauce that contains tangy Balsamic vinegar for that extra depth of flavour. Penne pasta has been used in this dish its design allows it to hold the sauce. What makes this a Smart ChoiceThis minced beef dish is high in protein and is a delicious way getting 1 of your 5 a day as we have packed it with Italian tomatoes. Instead of full fat milk and cream we have used skimmed milk and single cream within the Béchamel sauce.Message from our chefBolognese is an Italian classic but creating one from scratch can be time consuming and the calories can be hard to track. With this dish the hard work has been done for you. I love the depth of flavour in the Bolognese sauce and how the penne holds the sauce really well.Tom Wilcox
