£15.96 per kg, The season of the Reine Claude Doree starts a few weeks later than other varieties, but it is worth the wait. The original and oldest variety, first grown in Moissac, near Toulouse - and from which all Reine Claude/ Greengages are descended - they are available for just a short time during August and September. Unlike most greengages they are not pure green, but have a slightly rough, blushed skin and wonderfully honeyed flesh once fully ripe.
