During these four weeks bees are extremely busy gathering the honey from the Manuka flower. Methylglyoxal forms naturally in the Manuka plant nectar ready for collection by the bees Methylglyoxal - the active anti-bacterial compound in Manuka Honey MGO Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains. Methylglyoxal is the active compound directly responsible for the antibacterial activity of any Manuka honey and the MGO rating clearly indicates the minimum level of this compound in each jar.
