The hens that lay our Longstock Gold free range eggs are a cross between two traditional breeds, chosen for the exceptional quality of their eggs. Longstock Gold eggs have deep, golden yolks, and the shells are sage green or nut brown (we mix them in our boxes, to make full use of the eggs). The birds live in small flocks, on farms we know and trust, with plenty of space both outside and in the houses that provide shelter and protection at night. Longstock Gold - As this is an exclusive breed to Waitrose, we were able to name the breed and we chose a name that related the breed to Waitrose. The name Longstock relates to the house on our Leckford Estate owned by the John Lewis Partnership. The word gold ties in well with the premium No.1 branding and relates to the distinctive golden yolk. Our eggs are always from free-range hens with room to roam, peck and perch.
