Lead roof flashing provides a long-term watertight roofing option and lasts three times longer than most man-made alternatives Lead is one of the most environmentally-friendly materials used in the construction industry. Lead sheet is produced from 100% recycled lead. Recycled lead has a low carbon footprint and a low energy consuming melting temperature. The initial installation cost of lead is comparable to man-made flashings when the additional expense of adhesives and sealants are taken into account. In addition, the long drying time of some adhesives can increase labour costs. Long term projections suggest lead is almost 50% cheaper over 40 years and 100% cheaper over 60 years compared to man-made alternatives Lead is quick and easy to install in most weather conditions and requires no adhesive or other fixing materials. Man-made products generally require dry conditions above 5°C during installation, and adhesives may deteriorate if overexposed to UV light and not adhere to porous brickwork Alternatives are very limited in the types of applications that they can be used for, and would not be suitable for more decorative flashings for which lead is renowned.
